Tell it where the flight is starting from, and going to! Open the FMC, give it your position, and in complex aircraft align the IRS, so that is just a couple of switches to turn to the align position on the aft overhead. It is really a very simple logical thing if you read the tutorial and once you have figured it out, the same principle is applied for all simulations with slight variations. So many people seem to think the FMC is this monster waiting to leap out at you.
